The Property Market- Houses For Sale In Milton Keynes

In 1960, the British government decided to create new towns in the South East to relieve the congestion in London. Bletchley, Wolverton, Stony Stratford, along with fifteen villages and farmland, were selected to form the new town of Milton Keynes. The city is forty five miles away towards north-west of London. The original plan was to develop a “city in the forest”, and millions of trees were planted in the area. In 2006, there were over 20 million trees around Milton Keynes.


Property prices in Milton Keynes were pretty steady till three years back when the financial crunch started all around the world. After that time, property prices started to drop and they dropped by over eight percent. Since the last year, property prices have been steady and the average house price is close to hundred and ninety six thousand pounds. Average property prices are less than what they were four or five years ago. But, they are not declining and are generally holding steady.

There are four types of houses in Milton Keynes, detached, semi-detached, terraced and flats. Detached houses have the highest value as they are independent houses. Semi-detached houses are the next in the list and are houses that share a common wall with a neighbouring house. Terraced houses are similar looking houses that share common walls on both sides with neighbouring houses. Flats are homes located in one building.

The cheapest houses in Milton Keynes are flats, but they have had a very steady price since 2005. The average price of a flat in Milton Keynes is a hundred thousand pounds. Prices rose slightly in 2008, but declined again and

are expected to remain the same throughout 2010.

Terraced houses prices were around hundred and twenty thousand pounds in 2005 and rose to hundred and thirty five thousand pounds in 2007-2008. But, the prices have declined since then and are averaging at hundred and twenty five thousand pounds. There are no indications that prices are likely to change this year.

Semi-detached houses prices were hundred and sixty thousand pounds in 2005 and went up to nearly two hundred thousand pounds in 2007-2008, although they have gone down since then and are holding steady at hundred and seventy five thousand pounds.

Detached houses have always been much more expensive than other types of houses in Milton Keynes. In 2005, the price of detached houses was close to three thousand pounds and went over three hundred and thirty thousand pounds in 2007-08. The prices have declined to three hundred thousand pounds and no o change is expected in 2010.

The average prices of houses in Milton Keynes by house type are; detached over two hundred and ninety four thousand pounds. Semi-detached over hundred and sixty three thousand pounds, terraced over hundred and forty thousand pounds and flats average at just over hundred thousand pounds.

The highest value streets are, Potsgrove, Little Linford, Church End, Berry lane, and Passenham. The streets with the highest turnover are Aylesbury, Caraway Close, Blansby Chase, Ackroyd Place and Nash Croft.

Prices of property are not expected to change in 2010. Milton Keynes is a lovely city with all the modern amenities and plenty of parks and recreational areas.
